First off, I made a big mistake. I'm using Mac OS X and I'm just messing around with MySQL, so the data isn't all that important. It will just take time to rebuild it all if its lost.

I had version 5.0.27 running fine. I wanted to upgrade to 5.1.24. So, the package installation asks if you want to upgrade. I said yes and proceeded without backing up my tables first. I know, I know - how stupid can I be?

Well, the thing is that it kept my old data directory and I just copied it over into the new installation, ran the mysql_upgrade program and all seemed to be fine. Except that now all my schemas are there but no tables. Is this simply because they're not there or is there some privilege thing that needs to change in order for me to see them?

Thanks.

check the folder permissions...though you haven't mentioned what the table type was...myisam is ok to copy in that way, innodb needs to be a more involved during the back up, by stopping the server and running the back up utility
